Rey Romero Farm's roaster went quiet first. In a post this fall, the Santa Fe Farmers' Market said the freeze had come and the chile was winding down. Rey Romero Farm, Jacona Farm and One Straw Farm were all roasting that morning, and Rey Romero said it was the farm's last roast of the season. The market added that there might be a little chile left for the Tuesday market.
For anyone who walks to the Railyard from South Capitol, that last line matters more than the roasters do. The Tuesday market keeps going after chile season. It runs until December 22, 2026, and once you count from this week's publication, eight Tuesday mornings remain. The Tuesday season opened May 5. After the 22nd, the farmers' market drops to one day a week until spring. Late fall is the end of the weekday market, and it is still open.
Of the Railyard's weekly markets, the Tuesday farmers' market is the only one with an end date this year. The Santa Fe Farmers' Market runs Saturdays all year from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Market Pavilion, 1607 Paseo de Peralta. Its posted Saturday schedule has no separate winter hours. Sundays are covered by two separate markets run by other organizers.
| Day | Market | Hours | Where | Runs through |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Tuesday | Santa Fe Farmers' Market | 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. | Market Pavilion, 1607 Paseo de Peralta | December 22, 2026 |
| Tuesday | Railyard Artisan Market | 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. | Alongside the Farmers' Market | May through December |
| Saturday | Santa Fe Farmers' Market | 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. | Market Pavilion, 1607 Paseo de Peralta | Year-round |
| Sunday | Railyard Artisan Market | 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. | Railyard | Year-round |
| Sunday | El Mercado at El Museo | 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. | 555 Camino de la Familia | Listed for November 1 and onward |
The Railyard's event page for El Mercado describes a market of more than 55 vendors. The Railyard Artisan Market sets up next to the farmers on Tuesdays through December and has Sundays to itself all year. So the Pavilion keeps a full weekend schedule into the new year. December 22 is the date to remember because that's when the Tuesday farm tables stop.
In its own posts, the market has stopped talking about roasting and started talking about soup. The same post that announced the last roast said cauliflower and pumpkin squash were at full harvest. It suggested shoppers "shop the ingredients for that big pot of soup." The vendors photographed that morning could fill a soup pot between them:
An earlier post from just before the frost described the market as racing it. That post showed One Straw Farm pumpkins, La Mesa Farms apple cider, Malandro Farm cauliflower, Monte Vista Farm beets and napa cabbage, CLC Pecans, and Tony's Farm chile ristras. A few weeks before that, Ground Stone Farm had radicchio, broccoli and greens, and Mendez Produce had squash, tomatillos, peppers and beans.
These were snapshots from particular fall mornings. They aren't a promise of what will be there on a given Tuesday in December. Over those weeks, the flowers and cucumbers in the photos gave way to squash, leeks and broth. The Railyard's listing for the November 7 Saturday market still promises fresh produce, meats, cheeses, baked goods, chile, teas and herbs, along with crafts and body care.
The market's Tuesday page is direct about what the day offers. It calls Tuesday a chance to "beat the crowds" and says the market has "the same variety as seen on Saturdays": produce, eggs, meat, honey, bread, chile, apothecary goods and more. Cafe Fresh pours hot coffee and sells ready-to-eat treats. The Santa Fe Farmers' Market Gift Shop carries fair trade and local goods, and the market says purchases there go directly to supporting its farmers.
That changes what the walk is for. Saturday morning at the Pavilion is the weekend's big gathering. Tuesday is a weekday errand, and South Capitol sits close enough to the Railyard to make it on foot before or between other obligations. The 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. hours are the same as Saturday's. Leeks, broth and a dozen eggs carry home more easily than a bushel of roasted chile.
Counting from the week of October 29 to the posted end date, these are the Tuesdays left in 2026:
The November 24 date stands out. It's the last weekday market before Thanksgiving, with the same hours and the same vendors as the Saturday before it. The last Tuesday, December 22, comes three days before Christmas.
The market's fall posts list EBT, SNAP and WIC as accepted forms of payment. The Santa Fe Reporter reported in March that SNAP shoppers at the Saturday Pavilion market can buy tokens at the Santa Fe Farmers' Market Institute booth. Each dollar is matched through Double Up Food Bucks, and the matched dollars mostly go toward New Mexico-grown produce. The same story covered the Institute's Tianguis Móvil mobile market. That program added meat and dairy in 2026 and rotates among 12 locations around town. Program details can change from season to season, so check the Institute's page before you plan a shopping trip around the match.
The market asks people to leave pets at home. Service animals are welcome. If your Railyard walk usually includes the dog, you'll need to split it into two trips on market mornings.
The week this post goes up has one more reason to walk over. The Railyard Arts District Last Friday Art Walk is listed for Friday, October 30, from 5 to 7 p.m., based at 1612 Alcaldesa St. The listing describes it as a monthly event and names SITE Santa Fe and Vladem Contemporary among the participating galleries. It comes the evening before Saturday's farm tables on October 31. Add the Sunday markets on November 1 and the first November Tuesday on the 3rd, and the Railyard has something going on four of the five days around Halloween.
Past those first days of November, the schedule stays simple through the end of the year. There's a farmers' market on Tuesdays and Saturdays, artisans on Sundays, and El Mercado across Camino de la Familia. After December 22, the Saturday market at the Pavilion continues through the winter on its own.
Living a short walk from a year-round farmers' market is part of what a South Capitol address means, and it's the kind of detail that rarely makes it into a listing.
